Between 2000 and 2010 an outstanding cultural project took place in the Southern Westphalia cultural region of North Rhine-Westphalia: the "Wittgenstein-Sauerland Wood Sculpture Path"! On a 23 km route along the Wittgenstein-Sauerland Wood Sculpture Path from Bad Berleburg to Schmallenberg, at prominent points there are a total of 11 sculptures by well known artists.

The path leads from the access paths to the Rothaarsteig, which is thereby greatly enriched in terms of art. Dr. Uwe Rüth, former museum director from Marl was engaged as curator; he developed the overall artistic concept. He was assisted by an advisory board consisting of 5 prominent people from both regions.

The project was managed by the Wittgenstein Academy, Bad Berleburg.
